My mother once told me dogs eat grass before it rains. It was a lesson passed down in the countryside of Rugao.
At age six, I accepted it as fact. When you’re that young, everything must be true.
At age thirteen, my mind swam with curiosity. A quick Google search told me no, dogs ate grass to soothe an upset stomach. I wished I could soothe the pebble of disappointment in my stomach.
Yesterday, I watched our neighbor’s Pomeranian rip apart our lawn with his tiny teeth. I felt sorry for him.
This morning, the roses in our garden glistened.
